FAQ

What are the cleaning and care instructions?

Minimal cleaning is needed. Dust when needed; wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth. You may want to use distilled water to avoid water spots that tap water can leave on glass. If your piece is in the kitchen and gets greasy, use a mild dish soap and rinse with running water, don’t submerge it. Dry with a soft towel.

Don't use scouring pads, steel wool, or anything that contains ammonia or abrasive cleansers as they can scratch the glass and ruin the lead and solder that hold the piece together. Especially don’t use anything abrasive on pieces with patina (the black or copper coloring on the solder) as it will remove it.

Over time the metal may oxidize, this is natural. To shine it up, use carnauba car wax or Pledge. Apply a small amount with a cloth, let it dry, and then polish it off with a soft cloth. Do not use car polish or car wax with cleaner!

Does every piece look the same?

Since each piece is made by hand, there are subtle differences in each one, even those that may seem identical. Similar glass colors can vary due to the way glass is made. Also, glass is very difficult to photograph.

Is it safe to touch my stained glass piece?

Absolutely, just don’t lick it! Wash your hands after handling the finished item as is is made with lead solder.

How should I hang my stained glass piece?

Suction cups are never a good idea. Even the adhesive stick on kind have been known to fail. Your best bet is to hang the item from a chain on a hook screwed into the window frame. I use chain or nylon coated stainless steel fishing line. Regular fishing line will deteriorate in the sun and elements.
